Poor New Jersey.
Besides the Virginian Governorship up for grabs as well is the Congressional seat of New York's 23rd District. This all went haywire when the Republican in the district (which has not been represented by a Democrat since slavery was legal), dropped out a few days ago to tack her support behind the Democratic candidate after multiple conservative Republicans endorsed the Conservative Party candidate. That candidate has now been endorsed by the Republican Party.
The issue was, apparently, that the original Republican candidate was too liberal. The bigger question is what this means for the GOP. Anderson Cooper interviewed a GOP organizer on 360 last night who seemed to rather directly imply that the Republican Party will be following a litmus test from now on to determine candidates, rather than trying to diversify to appeal to more constituencies. This man kept speaking about how he's a good American because he hates Karl Marx and loves the Constitution. I thought American was melting pot of ideas and diversity...at least that's what School House Rock taught me...but I suppose that was perpetrated by the Marxists too, right?
The shows the degeneration of our culture. One of our major political parties openly acknowledges that they aren't open to a diverse exchange of ideas, but rather to a fascistic and hardline way of thinking. No wonder they are losing so many politicians and voters to the Democrats. I'd ask "how stupid can they be?", but every time I have they seem to outdo themselves more quickly than I imagined they could or would.
Glenn Beck and Rush directly at blame for this. Since when, Mr. Steele, do they hold any clout with mainstream Republicans? Oh yeah, that happened when they pushed all of their members to the Democrats a year ago. I forgot.
