There seems to be a rather broad consensus in the country that neither is truly attempting to represent The People anymore. While the Democrats have simply stopped listening to their constituents concerning health care, Republicans seem more concerned with looking like the not-bad guys than coming up with their own solutions. While ignoring the problem certainly will not lead to any sort of solution, forcing a plan down America's throat will not fix this either.
So, if the representatives refuse to represent us, who will? The media? Guess again! The main sources of news in the United States have all but given up on truth-seeking, and rather have regressed to predisposed messages based on their political agendas. Whether we consider Republican faithfuls such as Fox News' Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity, or turn to the Democrats' MSNBC and Rachel Maddow or Keith Olbermann, it's really no wonder that more and more Americans are looking to Jon Stewart for their news coverage: at least he harasses everyone equally!
The reason that Glenn Beck is gaining political clout in this country is simply because everyone else who is supposed to be acting on behalf of We The People is failing at their duties, or is at least perceived by many, left and right, as doing so.
Besides, when was the last time you heard a politician seriously talk about compromise? I thought that was the whole point of checks and balances and republicanism to begin with.
